Raising Awareness and Inspiring Action on Community Issues

On Tuesday, Nov. 26 the 10th grade will host our sixth annual BFS Community Issues Conference.聽Students in grades 8-12 will learn about significant local community issues and identify ways that they, as young people, can support constructive change in the community.

Tenth graders in the class聽Service and Justice: Raising Awareness & Inspiring Action,聽have designed the conference poster, identified authentic community needs, and researched community partners.聽Students will meet representatives from local organizations, including speakers who are BFS parents and alumni, and discuss ways they can support these organizations to address the underlying causes of the issues they face.

The and parts of the conference will be live-streamed via the BFS Facebook page!

The opening session will amplify 10th grade student voices, and the closing will include a performance from Theater of the Oppressed NYC, an UrbanWord NYC poet, and a 10th grade dance performance inspired by the book聽Citizen: An American Lyric聽by Claudia Rankine.

This year we are welcoming guest students and chaperones from Trevor Day School, The Browning School, Mary McDowell Friends School, Boerum Hill School for International Studies, Lyc茅e Francais, Berkeley Carroll School, and St. Luke’s School.
