Mexican Folk Artist Wows With Clay

A Visitor from Oaxaca shares his talents with young student artists.
Folk artist聽Fernando F茅lix Peguero Garc铆a estimates that about 3,000 people live in his hometown in the pueblo of Santa Mar铆a Atzompa in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, and that 90% of them work in clay. 聽Fernando, at the request聽of 聽Visual Arts teacher Ellen Kahan, spent the day in the聽BFS ceramics studio working with Lower, Middle,聽and Upper School students in separate gatherings throughout the day. 聽Fernando’s subject matter couldn’t better befit this聽spooky time of year. Much of his macabre work combines ghoulish and skeletal human-animal hybrids and other works that evoke Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead, also known as All Souls Day).聽聽 You can learn more about Fernando聽and see more of his work .
