Visiting Artist Series: Hugo Guinness

IMG_0721Faculty parent, Hugo Guinness joined our 11th grade IB art class as our final visiting artist of the 2014-15 school year. 聽Guinness is an artist known for his his bold, graphic black-and-white block prints and illustrations. Using his signature simplified style, Guinness depicts everyday objects or phrases, evoking a quirky sensibility and the character of each item. As an artist, Guinness crosses boundaries into film, design, and illustration. His work has been published in Vogue and the New York Times, to name a few; he has created designs for clothing brands such as J. Crew and collaborated in many creative ways with filmmaker Wes Anderson.
During his visit, Hugo met with the IB Visual Arts 11th graders to demonstrate block printing and share some of his prints with the group. After learning some of Hugo鈥檚 tips and techniques, students were asked to create their own block prints, representing themselves through a word, object or image. 聽Using soft rubber blocks, the students quickly created their own bold graphic prints and ultimately incorporated new skills, techniques and ideas into their artistic repertoire.聽Thank you, Hugo for the delightful visit!
