Why IB?

*In Spring 2021, as they began course registration for the 2021-2022 school year, the Upper School shared this note regarding the International Baccalaureate program.

In the Upper School, as we prepare for course registration, we wanted to share forward the reasons why we offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in our division.聽The IB program is more than any other standard curricula or program. The IB provides a framework for how students engage with the world. Students develop the tools and skills that will prepare them for a future world we can not know, skills of inquiry, citizenship, knowledge and care.聽Many of you have asked, 鈥淪o why does BFS offer IB?鈥 Our answer is why not IB?聽:

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools鈥 to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie addresses the聽. At BFS, we are actively supporting students in their learning about both themselves and others as a way to begin dismantling systemic oppression. IB supports us in that work.聽Want to chat more about IB?聽Please email Daniel Paccione, our IB Coordinator.
